There are multiple different types of thyme essential oil, each with remarkably different natural chemical profiles and effects. Our thyme essential oil is steam-distilled from thymus zygis leaves grown in Spain, and contains a high percentage of the active ingredient thymol.
Thyme is commonly used in the same places as oregano, and complements its power. It cleans the skin, can stimulate the nerves, and is very warming. Thyme is still very potent and should be used in extreme dilution. Diffuse in very small amounts, or apply topically in max 2% dilution.
White Thyme Essential Oil has a spicy, warm, herbaceous scent. It is very powerful and penetrating, with medicinal and green tones.
White Thyme Essential Oil is a possible skin irritant. It is toxic if not properly diluted.
Thyme has been used in ancient herbal medicine. The Greeks, Egyptians and the Romans all found it to be useful. The Greeks would use it in their temples as an incense and the Egyptians used it in embalming. During the Middle Ages it was given to Knights for courage, and was carried into courtrooms and large areas of gathering to ward off diseases.
