Bath Salts

The recipe for making your own bath salts is virtually stress-free. And even better, adding essential oils to your salts can help you unwind physically, mentally and emotionally.

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup epsom salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 20 drops essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix with a whisk until well combined. Then, add the salts to warm, running bath water. You’ll likely have enough salts for several additional baths — which means more pampering in the future!

Scented Soap

Stress tends to dry out skin, so anyone who’s feeling tense will appreciate the rich moisture of goat’s milk soap—especially when it comes with added oils. This soap can help repair dry, damaged skin, and the scents from the oils will aid relaxation (not to mention remind you of the smells of a soothing spa).

You’ll need:

  • Goat’s milk soap base
  • 15-30 drops essential oil
  • Silicone soap molds or metal muffin tin
  • *Dried flowers or herbs (optional)
  • *Food coloring (optional)

Melt down the goat’s milk soap base in a stainless steel pan. Be sure to check the melting temperature of the base you’re using before you start (most tend to melt between 130°-150° F). When the base is heated (but not boiling), add 15-30 drops of essential oil, and any food coloring, flowers or herbs you want to include. Pour the melted soap into a silicone mold or muffin tin to harden. When done, pop the hardened soap out.

Then, turn on the shower to the hottest temperature available. Let it run for about 30 seconds to create steam before turning the temperature down and stepping in. Begin cleansing with the soap and feel your stress evaporate with the steam.

Sugar Scrub

When you’re perpetually hurried, it can be easy to neglect self-care. Dull, rough skin is often a side effect of stress. This sugar scrub can restore your skin’s healthy glow, and you’ll feel like you just received a spa-worthy exfoliation treatment.

You’ll need:

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5-10 drops essential oil

Melt the coconut oil in a glass jar in the microwave, or in a stainless steel stovetop pan, until liquified. If melted on the stove, remove from heat. Add sugar and essential oil. Mix well, then use in a hot bath, followed by your favorite lotion.
